О нас First Croatian Football League
Croatia's first football league is a proud successor of the late Yugoslavian football league, that has collapsed after Croatia declared independence in 1991. Along its 33 years of operation, the league has gone through some changes, including name rights, and its now consists of 10 playing clubs.
The Croation league is now called Hrvatska Nogometna Liga (NHL) or, for sponsorship rights, the SuperSport HNL. It was established as First Croatian Football League, or Prva Hrvatska Nogometna Liga and at the time contained 12 clubs. League matches first started in the winter of 1992.
First league champion was Hajduk Split. From the second season one came the emergence of Dinamo Zagreb, Croatia's all-powerhouse team, having won the championship 25 out of 33 seasons. The first ten years of league's existence it was under the name Croatia Zagreb, and since 2000 as Dinamo Zagreb. Dinamo Zagreb is Croatia reigning champion, having won the title after the 2023-24 season, it's seventh championship in a row and 17th out of the last 18 seasons.
The second biggest club in Croatian football is Hajduk Split, who has won 6 championships. The other clubs to have won a title (one a piece) are Rijeka and NK Zagreb.
Croatia's all-time leading goal scorer is Davor Vugrinec, who scored 146 goals for multiple clubs. He is followed by Igor Cvitanović with 126 goals and Ivan Krstanović with 123.
The league's all-time appearance leader is Jakov Surać, who have played in 478 matches between 1996-2012. Following him are Miljenko Mumlek (399 matches and Damir Vuica (372).
Over the years, Croatian football have produced many top players who have graced the continent's major club. First and foremost among them is national team captain Luka Modrić, Spanish league and Champions League winner as of 2023-24 with Real Madrid, who have extended his contract in the Spanish capital by one more year.
By the 2024 season, winger Ivan Perisic has come home to Hajduk Split, after an illustrious career that has included playing for Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur. In Split, Perisic was joined by midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who has won nearly all major trophies in European football with Schalke 04, Sevilla and Barcelona.
In 2023, Defender Josko Gvardiol, the Dinamo Zagreb product, has joined Manchester City and became the latest Croation player to win both domestic and European title.
