О нас Црвена Звезда
There was, of course, that magic night in Stadio San Nicola, Bari, where Red Star Belgrade won the biggest price of them all, the cup with the big ears, after beating Olympique de Marseille on penalties 5-3 to win the 1991 European Cup for the first an only time. And the same team went on to win the Intercontinental Cup. A quick look at the roster revels just how great Red Star really was.
There was Vladimir Jugovic, who, after Belgrade went on to play for Sampdoria, winning the Coppa Italia. From there he moved to Juventus, where he won a Serie A and another Champions League. Jugovic won another Coppa Italia with Lazio, and later played for Atletico Madrid, Inter and Monaco.
There was Robert Prosinecki, who moved on to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla, but his time there was cut short due to a serious of injuries.
In Midfield was Sinisa Mihajlovic, who left Red Star for Roma, moved to Sampdoria, before winning a Serie A, two Coppa Italia Cups, two Supercoppa Itlaiana Cups, a UEFA Cup Winner Cup and a UEFA Super Cup with Lazio, and a Serie A, two Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italian with Inter.
Up front was striker Dejan Savićevic, who won three Serie A titles, two Italian Supercoppa, a Champions League and a European Super Cup, all with AC Milan.
If that wasn’t enough, on the other side, wearing Marseille white, was former Red Star teammate Dragan Stojkovic.
And then there was this date in history, February 1958: Red Star hosted Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the European Champions Club Cup. The game ended in a 3-3 draw. Afterwards, on the way back to England, the United plane crashed during takeoff at Munich airport.
But let bygones be bygones. Red Star, Serbia’s leading team, got into a professional crisis and an even bigger financial crisis as the millennium changed. The team won Serbia’s SuperLiga title in 2006-07, And then saw hatred and bitter rival Partisan Belgrade win the domestic title six time in a row between 2007-08 to 2013-14. And because their financial situation was in such a big mess, UEFA’s financial control body stripped them off their place in 2014-15 Champions League qualifying.
But in December 2017 Red Star defeated Koln 1-0 at home to finish second in the Europa League group and qualify for the knockout stage, Christmas football was coming back for Red Star. fans
Red Star Belgrade - Fudbalski Klub Crvena Zvezda in Serbian - was founded in early 1945, actually before the end of World War Two, by a group of anti-fascist students in Serbia. Because the club was formed on the ruins of pre-war club SK Jugoslavija, it was given its stadium, offices, players and red and white uniforms and logo, with the addition of a star. A year after formation, Red Star won the regional Serbian championship and competed in the Yugoslavian national championship, which it won for the first time in 1951.
Red Star’s rivalry with Partizan Belgrade is legendary, fueled by two fan bases that simply hate each other. The match between the teams – which came to be known as The Eternal Derby – requires a large force of police and army force to keep piece in place.
Red Star play its home matches in 55,538-seat Rajko Mitic Stadium. The stadium, nicknamed “The Marakana” because its capacity stood at 100,000 seats when opened in 1963, was re-named in 2014 in honor of former club legend and is one of the more hostile European stadiums to play in. When walking into the pitch, visiting players get their first taste of what is about to come when they leave the dressing room and walk through the tunnel, a close, stuffy and very intimidating section of the stadium. And this even before they have to face the home crowd.
Red Star’s all-time appearance leader is Dragan Dzajic, who have recorded 389 matches for the club between 1963-75 and 1977-78. The all-time goal scorer is Bora Kostic, who scored 230 goals in 250 matches between 1951-61 and 1962-66.
Red Star Belgrade has won 27 national championships (19 of the Yugoslav First League, 5 of the Serbia and Montenegro First League and 3 of the Serbia SuperLiga), 24 Cups, a UEFA European Cup and a UEFA Super Cup.
