О нас Хьюстон Тексанс
When we try and recount the history of the Houston Texans, which is a fairly brief one, we are brought into the unique world of commerce that underpins major American pro sport but is less prevalent in other parts of the world. Where else would the failure to bring an ice hockey franchise to a particular city in one year, ultimately result in the creation of a franchise for a totally different sport, American football, just two years later. Thus on the morning of October 6, 1999, the NFL owners voted 29–0 to accept an offer from Houston NFL’s backers to give Houston the 32nd franchise in NFL. In addition, Houston would also host the 2004 Super Bowl, the second time Houston would host the event.
At this time, this was just a business deal and much work remained to get a team up and running – management, players, livery. And of course the team needed a name. Among the original contenders were Apollos, Bobcats, Challengers, Colt 45's, Energy, Hurricanes, Roughnecks, Roughriders, Roustabouts, Stallions, Stormcats, Texans, Texians, Toros, Wildcats, Wildcatters, and Wranglers. Eventually Texans was chosen – stallions had been favorite, but the management opted out of this since the horse imagery was overused in the league with the Denver Broncos, the Indianapolis Colts and the secondary logo of the San Diego Chargers. Texans was instead picked to be "something unique to Houston and the NFL," as well as representative of the bravery of Texas natives.
The Texans in their relatively short life have yet to win a Super Bowl or even feature in one but they have reached the play-offs via winning their Division championship in 2011, 2012 and most recently in 2015.
Among the prominent players who have worn the Texans livery of deep steel blue, battle red and liberty white we can start with “Super Mario” Williams who is the most prolific pass-rusher in the NFL and has 53 sacks in his career.
Andre Johnson has been one of the best receivers in the NFL since nearly day one. He has nearly 10,000 receiving yards and 52 touchdowns in his career. Along with several other awards and recognitions, he is a five-time Pro Bowler, four-time All-Pro and two-time NFL receiving yards leader.
Arian Foster was an undrafted free agent out of the University of Tennessee who, over three seasons in the NFL, became a two-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection. In 2010, his 1,616 rushing yards led the NFL not to mention his 604 receiving yards and 18 total touchdowns.
Brian Cushing has become one of the best linebackers in the league. His high level of intensity and game play won him Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and a Pro Bowl selection in 2009. He is also a two-time All-Pro and was even voted the Texans' Team MVP in 2011.
